Round 4

Moorefield               1-09

Naas                           1-09

Moorefield showed great strength and character in the final ten minutes of this game to come back and draw with Naas after losing by eight points at one stage. This was a very entertaining game played by two very determined teams. Naas were first on the scoreboard when half forward kicked a good point from play in the 3rd minute. Declan McHomes kicked their second point in the 6th minute when he converted a free before Moorefield’s David Brannigan pointed from a free in the 8th minute after a good ball from Robert Mullen. Full forward Dean Carr levelled the game in the 8th minute with a good point from play after good work from Ryan Houlihan and Niall Galvin.  Naas took the lead for the second time in the 16th minute when Declan McHomes converted his second free and went two points clear when he kicked a good point from play. Dean Carr reduced the deficit to a point in the 23rd minute with a pointed free. Naas kicked two good points in the final seven minutes with an excellent point from Tom McHomes and a free from David Watson to leave a half time score of 0-05 to 0-03 in favour of Naas.

Naas got off to a flying start in the second half when corner forward John Joyce scored a goal within the first minute. Naas were running the show in the opening few minutes and David Watson kicked another good point from play to Naas in a comfortable six point lead. Niall Walsh & David McHomes kicked two excellent points in the 5th & 8th minute to put them into an eight point lead and it looked as if it was game over. Davie Brannigan kicked two great points in the 12th & 14th minute to reduce the deficit to six points and Moorefield were now coming into the game playing some great football. Davie Brannigan converted a free in the 20th minute to leave five between the teams. David McHomes kicked Naas’s last point in the 22nd minute when he converted from a free and it was Moorefield who dominated the game for the closing eight minutes. The crucial score came in the 25th minute when substitute Shane O’Connor scored a much needed goal for Moorefield to leave three points between the teams. Moorefield substitute Greg Pollard converted two frees to leave a point between the teams and it now looked as if either team could win this game. Moorefield won possession from the kick out and Ryan Moore sent in a great ball to Robert Mullen to hit a superb point in the 32nd minute to draw the game level.  The referee blew the final whistle a minute later to leave a final score of 1-09 apiece.

Best for Moorefield: Liam Healy, Niall Galvin, Ryan Moore, Robbie Mullen and David Brannigan.

Best for Naas:  Brian Byrne, Niall Walsh, Dean McHomes and Rory McDermott

 

Round 2

Sarsfields      0-09

This local derby saw some excellent football played throughout the game from two very determined minor teams looking for their first win in the league.

Moorefield started the brightest kicking three points from play in the opening ten minutes. Robert Mullen got the show on the road in the sixth minute with an excellent point from play after good work from Ryan Moore & Ryan Houlihan. Full forward Dean Carr kicked their second point a minute later with a good point before Liam McDermott kicked his first point of the day to put the Moore’s into a three point lead. David O’Neill opened the scoring for Sarsfields in the fifteenth minute when he pointed from a free and he reduced the deficit to a point in the 17th minute with a good point from play. Liam McDermott kicked the Moore’s fourth & last point of the half when he pointed from a free. Sean Dempsey kicked two excellent points for Sarsfields in the 23rd minute & the 27th minute to leave a half time score of 0-04 each.

Sarsfields took the lead for the first time in the game when Sean Dempsey opened the scoring in the second half. Moorefield replied instantly with a superb goal from Liam McDermott to put the Moore’s back in the lead.  Ronan Fitzpatrick left a point between the teams in the 9th minute when he pointed for Sarsfields but the Moore’s replied once again with two points from Liam McDermott to put them three points clear. Sarsfields dominated the game for the next ten minutes kicking three great points coming from David O’Neill, Ryan Frances & Kevin Lynch to level the game and it now looked as if either team could win this game. Both teams battled hard in the final ten minutes but it was Moorefield who finished the strongest. Liam McDermott kicked his fifth point of the game to put the Moore’s back in the lead in the 23rd minute. Robbie Mullen pointed from play a minute later after a great ball from Ryan Houlihan & Ryan Moore hit the final point of the game with a fine individual point to put them three points clear. Sarsfields refused to give up and had a great goal chance saved by Moorefield keeper Tom Kinsella in the final minutes. The Moore’s held possession from the kick out & deservedly won the game 1-09 to 0-9.

Best for Moorefield: Darragh Miller, Ryan Moore, Ryan Houlihan, Liam McDermott and Robert Mullen

Best for Sarsfields: Sean Dempsey, David O’Neill, Ryan Frances and Kevin Lynch.
