Moorefield remain unbeaten in the league with a 1-01 victory over a strong Leixlip side on Tuesday night which was played in terrible weather conditions in Leixlip. Corner forward Martin Shaughnessy opened the scoring for Leixlip in the 4th minute with a good point from play after Paul O’Neill sent in a good ball to him. Moorefield replied four minutes later with a point from Aaron Mullins after good work from Philie Wolfe to level the game and the Moore’s took the lead for the first time in the 15th minute when Frank Hanniffy converted a free. Leixlip replied instantly and levelled the game with an excellent point from Eamon Murphy and they went two points ahead when Paul O’Neill made a great run from centre field to knock over the point. Leixlip were dominating the game at this stage and went two points clear in the 18th minute after Alan Keary made a super run from the half back line to knock over the point. Moorefield had numerous scoring chances in the opening twenty minutes but failed to raise the white flag. Martin Shaughnessy and Eamon Murphy added good points from play in the 20th and 21st minute to put them into a four point lead. Moorefield raised their game for the final eight minute of the first half and their hard work paid off with a superb goal from centre half forward Philie Wolfe after a great cross from Aaron Mullins. Philie Wolfe levelled the game in the 27th minute when he pointed from a free and Keith Duane put the Moore’s back in the lead in the 28th minute with a well taken point after good work from Alan Melia and Kevin O’Neill.

Leixlip levelled the game once again in the 4th minute of the second half with a point from half back John Roche and they went back into the lead in the 6th minute when Eamon Murphy pointed from a free. Jason Philips kicked the Moore’s first point of the second half in the 11th minute to level the game with a point from play after excellent defensive work from Ger Naughton and Liam Callaghan but Leixlip were on the scoreboard once again with a point from Brian O’Neill after he combined with David Jordan which was to be Leixlip’s last score of the game. Moorefield dominated the final fifteen minutes of the game playing some excellent football. Gareth Duffy levelled the game in the 19th minute with an excellent point and he put the Moore’s back in the lead in the 24th minute with another good point from play after an excellent ball from Kevin Murnaghan. Duffy got his third point from play two minutes later to put the Moore’s two points clear. Bernard Behan and Kevin Murnaghan added a point in the final minutes to give the Moore’s a 1-10 to 0-09 victory.

Best for Leixlip: Alan Keary, Eamon Murphy and Martin Shaughnessy.
